Hello,

I just received X60 notebook.
Model is > 1709-H6U

While upgrading ram I saw 1 sim slot near ram compartment.
My question is >> Is it possible that I can put my 3G gsm sim card in that tray and create dial-up internet connection?

In device manager it shows yellow marking as of now for the sim tray/modem.
I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit version.

Sierra drivers got installed but I guess its only to use if I am in US & have some verizon subscription.

Any1 can tell how can I install drivers and use my 3g GSM sim to use internet on X60 notebook?

I cannot tell from your description if you definitely have a WWAN card in the machine, or if you just installed drivers even absent a WWAN card. So do the following:

Determine if you have WWAN antennas -- the main antenna will be a "bump" on the right side of the LCD panel. Determine if you have the 2nd miniPCIe slot for the WWAN card by looking under the palm rest. If yes, then install a modified BIOS for the X60, which will permit the installation of any miniPCIe 3G WWAN card. For a number of reasons, the "easiest" for that machine will be the Sierra Wireless MC8775 -- you will need to tape Pin 20. Use the Sierra Wireless 3G Watcher program to connect to your 3G provider.

If you use a different card, then you will need to find drivers and a "dialer" that support the card you have.

Note: If you do not install a modified BIOS, then you are limited to a Lenovo-branded Sierra Wireless MC8755, which is very slow by today's standards.

From where can I download Sierra wireless software?

From your pictures I see that you have a Sierra Wireless MC5720. That is a CDMA EV-DO Rev.0 device, not a GSM device, i.e., the MC5720 does NOT use a SIM card. If your wireless carrier is a GSM carrier, i.e., uses SIM cards, then the MC5720 will not work at all with your carrier.

If you wish to use a 3G WWAN GSM card in the X60, then you need to replace the MC5720 with a GSM device. See my first post in this thread for what to do.

I doubt if it's possible to tamper above card to locate pins in it.

Can you pls explain where to locate pin 20 in above card and how?
I am kinda newbie to this Sierra WWAN card as in India we use USB 3g modems but I prefer this card to save 1 of my USB port.
