x61 tablet: replace touch screen with non-touch?

Hello,

I have a 7764-CTO (SN: xxxxxxx 08/10). It has the "Multitouch/Multiview" XGA screen and a 1.8Ghz Core2Duo (and 8G of un-official RAM, yum).

I can't find the 7764-xxx in the tabook.pdf either...?

I boot linux, and the touch cursor is not in sync with the pen cursor so I don't use it.

I notice both the non-touch XGA screen and the SXGA screen are considerably brighter than the touch screen and I wonder if either non-touch screen will fit and connect up without modification?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Cheers,
Bret

Hi there, first off, i believe its not recommended to post your serial number in the forum.

I respect to installing a non touch screen, i think you will find that the LCD itself supports neither touch with finger or wacom pen. since there is an overlay and extra circuit boards attached to the back of the LCD.

I cannot say for sure, but i believe that if you bought an LCD in either resolution, it would install behind the overlay just the same, but you would have to leave one of the connectors unplugged (that controls the touch feature.)

I may be wrong, but i think:

Finger and pen input go to the motherboard as an input device, and have no communication or direct link to the LCD.

If you put an SXGA screen in, you could not use Finger touch because the resolution would be too high for the touch interface.

I'm sure another forum member can backup or give the correct answer,
