X61 boot from external USB drive ?

#1 Post by Miata » Wed Feb 22, 2012 6:26 am

Thinking about replacing my X40 for the X61.
Setting-up windows XP on my X40 was rather simple by using the docking-station.
Is it possible to boot the X61 from an external USB DVD-drive ?
Saves me buying the docking-station.

Hi Miata,

I recently got an X61S that will largely replace my X41 Tablet.

Yesterday I loaded Windows 7 64 bit on the X61S.
I started with a Lenovo external CD/DVD burner, but twice it hung part way through the install.
An X6 base just arrived yesterday and I was able to install the CD/DVD burner from my X4 base in the X6 base, and this loaded Windows just fine.
New hard drive is an Intel 320 series 160GB.

With the hacked BIOS the X61S is now seeing all 8 gigs of RAM, and will soon be running an SXGA+ IPS screen.

Thanks and good health, Weogo
