X60 TrackPoint works but TrackPoint buttons do not!!!

Hello Thinkpad.com forum

I recently bought a X60 and am generally very happy.

I instantly set it up to dual boot with Windows7 and Linux Mint operating systems.

I'm away from home and Ive been mainly using Windows7 and occasionally the TrackPoint buttons stopped working. To start with it was the right button. Then both. I noticed Windows7 was doing lots of updates and thought that these may be interfering (I know strange things can happen while windows is waiting for an update restart). Often upon restart it would all be working properly. Or I'd boot into Mint instead and not have problems. I've installed the latest drivers from Lenovo, I've uninstalled them, installed, unistalled etc. Also played with the TrackPoint setting in bios (getting desperate)

Now the buttons dont work at all. Not in Windows or Mint. The Trackpoint moves the pointer around and I just figured out about the 'press-to-select' function which makes me a bit happier - although I really would like a right click without having to have a mouse plugged in!!!!

I've had a look at the hardware maintenance manual and the TrackPoint buttons are part of the keyboard and I guess all connected through the same ribbon. My hopefully diagnosis that the problem was a dodgy connector is looking rather unlikely (all the rest of the keyboard works fine).

I think that the firm I bought it off upgraded the RAM and hard drive for my order so I was thinking maybe they disturbed something while they were doing this.

For final clarity this is the three buttons below the space bar/above the fingerprint reader. None of them work - but everything else appears to (actually not tried the fingerprint reader)

Anyone got any ideas????

Have you removed and reseated the keyboard - easy to do and will tell you one way or another

The ram is unneath the machine on an X60, so changing that is very unlikely to affect the keyboard.

Probably just a broken keyboard, but X series keyboards are cheap - around £10-£15
