Help! Issue with X60T's base covers *PICS*

Hi All

Today I was doing a mobo swap from one X60T lower assembly I got here in the forum to another X60T. I had a small surprise when trying to install the pen assembly (I don't know if this is the official name) for the digitizer. The basecovers were slightly different :!:

The donor lower case looks like this (FRU 42W2547):

... and when trying to install this pen assembly:

... I then realize that the receiving base cover looks like this:

So there's no way to install the pen assembly due to the extra notch on the left of the cover. Note that there are three notches on the first picture but four on the third. Now the digitizer will get inside the tablet, but it's tricky to get it out. Is there any reason why Lenovo has two different bases? Or maybe my X60T has a non original basecover? Or there is a different FRU for the pen assembly...?

Unfortunately when I realized this issue I wasn't willing to remove all the components again to check the FRU number of my X60T :(

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks a lot in advance!!

Edit: Updated the pictures to mark the problematic areas, check for the stars

Could you elaborate a little more how it's unable to fit, I can see there seems to be a minor difference but don't really realize what's exactly preventing the spring part to hold and eject the stylus from fitting.

Perhaps you can indicate in the photos...?

Cheers.

Yep there are 2 base FRUs...

I ran into this and ended up cutting the small notch of the spring section - not perfect but it works fine

Of course! In the heat of writing the post I forgot to go more in detail with the differences, sorry for that and thanks for pointing this out. Please note that there are three notches on the first picture but four on the third. That four notch is where the small latch of the pen assembly should sit.

I've edited my original post and will try to highlight the problematic areas in the pictures.

If it were me, I would cut the notch from the pen latch assembly, and use a drop of hot glue to keep it in place.

Well, this would be surely a feasible solution. Now the question is what had IBM/Lenovo in mind when they designed two different base covers :?:

My guess is that there should be two different pen assembly parts as well. But after checking the HMM and I can't find any information about it... :(

I had a long conversation with Lenovo about 6 months ago about this and the pen spring part is not a FRU, it's part of the base FRU and not available on its own.
I have this from the head of Lenovo's EMAA sales dept, who I eventually emailed as a shot in the dark as no-one could work out which part I wanted.
It IS a FRU on the X2xx series, but not on the X6x series

That was my thought when checking the HMM, seems that I found one candidate en Ebay, unfortunately the shipping costs are twice the price of the assembly itself (Doh!) Pen Stylus
