X60 fan pulse issue

The fan on this X60 briefly changes pitch every 5 seconds or so, as though the fan is getting more current and speeding up then slowing down again (but only slightly, enough to hear).

Is this a known issue? The CPU temp is constant at around 43c and fan isn't excessively loud, if it stayed on without pulsing I wouldn't have an issue.
