Jittering screen---what's failing?

My screen has started jittering. At first it was just at start up, now it will be continual. However, directly thumping the LCD with a fingertip will "solve" the problem for that session. What is failing? What needs to be replaced?

Check the alcohol consumption of that laptop, it's developing Delirium Tremens!
Try reconnecting the LCD cable and inverter inside the LCD lid.
While you have it open, connect the LCD and switch it on, making sure you don't make any false contacts.
By gently squeezing along the top and sides of the LCD you might find the 'jitter' spot.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't opened the lid yet, but I did squeeze along the sides and found the "jitter spot" to be the middle third of the left side. What does that tell me?

Some row-drivers are borderline working.
Open it up, then try the squeezing again.
Put a piece of sticky/electrician's/duct tape at that exact spot.
It might solve the problem.
This is not an official 'fix', but just an empirical procedure, no warranties implied whatsoever!

I got the same problem for a long time, and have to squeeze the edge of the screen when it is jittering. I am confused about the procedure to fix it. Could you clarify to me which one is the cable and invertor to be reconnected? A pic would be great.

I did disconnect and disconnect the cables I can unplugged last time, and it worked for days, but it fails again recently, and become even worse... Don't know if I should totally replace it, or should try openning the cover for another time. Actually, I am watching a $50 screen to be bit now...

I have had the exact problem before. It is a short in the LCD cable that is causing the jitter. I replaced the inverter first because it was easier to get to, and there was no difference.
