Warm X61s palmrest... On the left side!!! (?)

I need some help here... I'm aware of the heat issues of this series. So for my 3rd X61s I just went through the usual suspect check list:
- Fan got cleaned and new thermal paste applied
- WLAN card swapped with a Intel 6205N
- WWAN card available installed
- Palmrest without FP reader but with the usual vents on the right side
So the right side of the palmrest is warm as expected (warmer than my other 2 X61s since they have no WWAN card), but the left hand side over the PCMCIA card is warm as well!
Slot is empty, so why is this area getting warm? My other 2 X61s do not get so warm on the left. It's because the WWAN card? CPU temps after three hours of usage never got above 65°C...
I hope this is no bad sign of some component preparing to bite the dust...
