x61 tablet random blank screen on startup

I've been struggling with this problem for a while, and I'm hoping that some more expert people can advise me. I have an x61 tablet type #7762-CTO, Windows xp tablet edition. Recently the screen would be blank when booting at random times. First the bios screen appears, and afterwards the Windows screen is seen loading and then no screen.
Interestingly, if I press the standby buttons, and after that press the fn button the display turns on. At first I thought it was a software problem (possibly windows was having trouble loading the video driver, so I did a reinstall of the OS, but the same problem was repeated. I don't see any problem with the hardware (swapped the memory modules and hard disk).
Any help and advice will be appreciated.

I have experienced something similar in a handful of scattered incidents on my X60 Tablet running XP SP3 Tablet Edition. In my case, it seems to be linked to different display configurations, multiple hardware profiles and/or the use of a docking station. It is ALWAYS fixable for me simply by performing a complete reboot from cold. I have always assumed that this is a software issue related to XP Tablet. But it has only happened perhaps a dozen times over the course of 2 years of daily use, so I haven't bothered to resolve it.

Phil.

It seems the problem is the dock. After the starting up the computer without a dock for a week this problem hasn't reappeared again.
Thanks for responding.
