Replacing screen on X61 tablet - touch not included

#1 Post by Utwig » Fri Jan 18, 2013 2:18 am

Hi,

I've got bubbles on my X61 tablet. Since this is the nicest PC I've ever had I want to keep her running.

I see some HV121P01-100 screens listed on ebay (the 100 does not have bubble problem).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-1-LCD-screen ... 4aace033ef

However those listings say touch not included. How hard is it to transplant the touch. Has anyone ordered HV121P01-100 screen, what experience have you had?

Also who is that screen in the add made by?

I swapped screen in my T60p and motherboard in T61 successfully so I think swapping screen in the tablet shouldn't be too big of a problem.

If you really get what they show there, those screens are IPS/AFFS/Flexview made by BoeHydis.
The X60 tablet (X60T) uses the same screen AFAIK but with a different digitizer (G4, the X61t has G5), which is not bonded with that bubble-making goo.
Get an X60T screen, you'd be much happier.

So if I get that screen shown on ebay and put it in the X61 Tablet, the digitizer will work? The part number for ebay listing is same as for X60 Tablet.

I saw that article and I understand German. I was considering trying that after I have a working screen as that procedure can damage it.

Yes, it should. You'll have to remove the digitizer from your old screen (which is double-sided-taped to the panel itself) and install it on the new screen.
However, be aware that sometimes ebay LCD sellers will ship you a "compatible" part instead of the correct part as identified by part number. You should probably contact the seller and ask specifically whether they have the exact part number.

Screen arrived, I think with digitizer, I'll let you know how swap goes.

if the back is silver, it is a g5 digitizer. If it is copper-colored, it's a g4. If it is white, there is no digitizer

The part I ordered had copper colored g4 digitizer. What's the difference between g4 and g5?

The connectors are in different places, so an LCD cable for one may not reach the connector on the other.
