Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you more experienced thinkpadders know if this will work as an extra drive in my x61s?

Firstly, this isn't a EC SSD. It's an SDXC (Camera memory) card in a EC adapter sold as a two-pack. It's not even Transcend for both, but Transcend and Sandisk, so it's a third party, maybe the website, doing the bundling.

You can get the SDXC card for less, and most certainly the SDXC-compatible ExpressCard adapter, so even if this afforded you decent enough speeds (it wouldn't compared to an actual SSD), you could save money looking elsewhere.

It's not an Expresscard slot; it's a Cardbus slot, an earlier standard. There are adapters from Cardbus to Expresscard, but they rely on a USB 2.0 port embedded in the interface. So it won't run at Express slot speed. And the Ricoh chipset for this has other problems, so the approach will not work.

No, I'm afraid you're out of luck here. :(

External USB or Firewire drives for backup/storage are your best bets here. Unless you get the Ultrabase X6, which can support UltraBay slim, and the 2nd HDD adapter with another SATA or PATA drive.

*facepalm*

Of course...it slipped my mind that this was for an X61s which has no ExpressCard slot. I didn't need to shoot down his choice in such detail (although I'm right on those points!). :D
