X61T starts up fine, but has 1-3-3-1 beep code on restart.

I'm currently testing this X61 Tablet (MT 7662-AE5) that came without RAM and hard drive.

I put in a 1GB SODIMM from my own X61, and it seems to start up fine. I used a Linux Live USB and I didn't encounter any problems.

But whenever I restart the X61T, the IBM BIOS logo doesn't come up and it gives a 1-3-3-1 beep code.
According to the HMM, it's either the RAM or the system board.

I've already run memtest86 on the X61T and no errors are reported.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?

If you use only 1 module, try the other slot.
Try the Reset-trick: remove main battery and AC adapter, then hold down the power button for 20 seconds.
Put 1 RAM in the bottom slot, connect only AC adapter and try to boot.
If no go, try the other slot.
If still no go, you may still have a faulty RAM.

I tried a different trick, but it worked nonetheless.
Power up the laptop without any RAM, then turn it off after the beep code.
Remove battery and/or AC adapter, then install RAM.
Reconnect battery/AC, then power on.

RAM now survives reboot. :D

I remember doing this on my old Pentium 3 desktop with Intel built-in graphics whenever I had to add RAM to it.

I recently obtained 3 battered and bare X61 Tablets for a low price and currently in the process of reviving them.
No AC adapter, RAM, HDD tray + cover, stylus, latch.
And the hinges are half-broken (left arm is broken, right still ok). :(

Too bad the one with the broken LCD and a (probably) bad board had the best specs: SXGA+ 1.8GHz C2D.
The working ones are both XGA + 1.6GHz :|
