I was looking for some quick advice - I have an X61s that is in great consmetic condition and I bought a battered X61 2.4Ghz from ebay. The X61 works well but has alot of scratches, broken plastic etc.
I was wondering if its possible to swap out the system board from my X61s with the system board of the X61 (which has the much faster processor).
Is the form factor of both boards identical?
I was looking through the manual and it certainly looks doable

Any advice is appriciated.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

The X61 motherboard uses a larger fan than the X61s motherboard, and the corresponding well in the base is accordingly larger. The X61s motherboard fits the X61 base, but not vice versa.

It will fit, if you use X61s fan. And if it is T8300 Penryn board, the X61s (which is better btw than X60s unit) heatsink can tolerate the extra heat output of the T8300 if you undervolt the CPU a bit.

Nevermind the 3pin vs 4 pin CPU fan connector, it works nevertheless with some modifying.
