X60s wireless issues

Bought off ebay as a bare bones and added battery, memory, HD, and found it had no wireless card. I've tried several and it just doesn't work. Even the stub D-link one I have acts flaky.

Any ideas? Are there specific ones that work with this unit?

Thanks,

David Wilson

Here is what you need: FRU #39T5578

Note: The other "approved" WLAN card for the X60s is the Lenovo-branded Intel 3945 -- which is best avoided. However, any of the other Intel WLAN cards, especially the new ones, e.g., 6300, 6205, 5300, etc., are great, but to use any of them the X60s would require a modified BIOS ... which is readily available.

Got one on the way, thanks.

Do you have to use the two screws on the card for it to work?

No, you do not. In fact, the X60s WLAN miniPCIe socket uses spring-loaded clips, not screws, to secure the card.

Okay, got the Atheros card in yesterday and it isn't working either. Code 10 device will not start. Should I find other drivers from Atheros or another source? I wasn't sure which one to use on the Lenovo site so I installed both.

I'm using a Dlink USB stub which works but it bugs me to see it there when the other ought to work.

Ideas? Insight?

I would try flashing the BIOS with a modified BIOS and see what happens. PM me if you need to link to one.

If the Atheros card you have has a sticker with "FRU #39T5578" printed on it, then you do not need a modified BIOS -- the standard Lenovo drivers are all you need. If the card does not have that designation on it, then it might be a generic card, in which case it might as well be any wireless card, for which you will need a modified BIOS for it to work in your X60s.

Below is the download link to Lenovo's Windows driver for FRU #39T5578:
