X61 Tablet won't run on battery

Hi,
My X61 tablet has been wonderful and I have no complaints, but as of today it instantly dies if I unplug it from the AC, and won't turn on without it. The battery is recognized, I run 'acpi' (I use linux) and it tells me:

Code: Select all

paulito@scoot:~$ acpi
Battery 0: Charging, 100%, charging at zero rate - will never fully charge.
It's died after I unplugged it a few times in the past, but now is the first time it hasn't worked on battery.

Any ideas?

Maybe your battery is shot? How long have you had the battery? Is it a genuine or aftermarket? It's not unusual for these battery to suddenly give up the ghost.

I've had it for as long as I've had this laptop, but it's older than that. It's a larger capacity battery and I'd say it's 2 years old. That's what i've suspected too, but in my experience batteries usually lose capacity over time instead of just suddenly dying.

Typically with these type of batteries, from laptops and power tools, I find it's not usual for it to die suddenly. I had one recently that went from 7% wear to dead within 2 charges. After about 2 years you can expect it to fail and fail suddenly. If you luck out with Panasonic cells then it may fail more gradually and lasts longer.

That's probably what I'll do then. I've been meaning to get a new one for a while and now i have reason to.

Thanks for the help!
