Adding a monitor to my thinkpad X60s

Hi All,

I've been using the same x60s (with some mods) for many years and have quite happy with it. But until now I've used it only as a laptop without a dock and external monitor. Recently, I've had need to for more screen space, and decided to buy a dock and monitor, but I have some questions:

Are there any restrictions to what kind of monitor I can add with a dock? Will it be able to support any aspect ratio, or do specific ones work better? While I would like to use a widescreen, I'm not looking to do much "extra" configuration to make something unorthodox work, so will certain monitor types work much better? Does screen size matter much?

Thanks in advance!

One thing to note about the X6 Ultrabase(40Y8116) is you only get a VGA connector, the same as on your X60s. Newer monitors tend to come with DVI, HDMI and Display port connections, but many still have VGA. My Dell desktop 2007FPs have VGA. Just make sure the monitor you get has a VGA connector. I believe the maximum resolution for VGA is 2048x1536. The screen size probably doesn't matter much, but the resolution is likely more important. The higher the resolution, the more likely it won't work. I don't know the details about what works with the X60s because it's been a long time since I've seen one, but I would guess anything 1920x1200 or under will work. Maybe someone with better information will be along.
