Strange USB Unrecognized Problem

Hey guys,

So I am sitting here on my old X61s, trying to get ready to give to my parents. Everything is running fine, however, every once in awhile, I get these USB Not Recognized error showing up in the notification bar. There is nothing plugged into any of the three USB ports on the machine.

I click on the notification and it shows the window below. What exactly is this "USB ROOT HUB (2 ports)", and where can I find it?

I don't really mind the notifications coming up but the DING DING...DING DING from the system thinking there is a USB device plugged in is quite annoying, and it happens randomly and often.

Any advice?

Do you have a fingerprint reader on this machine? Is it enabled?

Yes I do, which I NEVER use. I wish I never added this feature when ordering the machine :P

I checked device manager and looked for a biometrics section hoping to update the driver, but I don't have biometrics section at all? Is that possible?

I've also downloaded the drivers for the finger reader software from Lenovo's site. Not sure what else to do?

If you lift up the keyboard, you see a small flat cable coming from the middle of the palmrest, going to the left.
That's for the FPR. Just disconnect it and you should be good.

Yeah, I was just thinking of doing the same. I never use it. Seriously, never.

And I was reading some horror stories/threads on what it takes to get this re-activated in the bios and OS. Most of what I read, it requires a complete reinstall of the OS (no way!).

Needless to say I think your suggestion is much easier... :)
