Remove battery on suspend with AC adapter plugged in?

Let's say I'm charging my X61 main battery, and it reaches 100%.
Can I put the laptop on suspend and remove the battery while the AC adapter is plugged in?
Is it safe?
I know the safer way is to hibernate/turn off, unplug AC, then remove battery, but sometime my Linux install botches the resume from hibernate. D:

With the AC plugged in there were a few times I removed and replace the battery without any issue. I don't see how doing it while on standby would hurt. Of course if you accidentally disconnect the AC while doing this, then poof whatever was in RAM is gone. The charging/discharging circuitry in modern laptops and battery are pretty fail proof these days.
Having said that, this is not common practice for me. Swapping battery, which is seldom done to begin with, is done while in hibernation or when the laptop is off. The few occasions I did this was an experiment to see what would/would not happen.

On the T60 that I use almost daily for testing purposes I swap the battery in and out all the time, regardless if the machine is on or off.
I have never ever used standby/suspend/sleep mode on any of my laptops in my life!

Thanks for your insights and experiences.
I just tried it now and nothing catastrophic happened.
