Clean fan and apply thermal compound to cpu X61T

Just curious if anyone knew of a place that would clean out the fan (it is noisy, tried the vacuum approach from outside without much success). Also would like a new layer of thermal compound on the cpu as it runs rather hot. The display has bubbles on it, but I can live with that. The fan noise is annoying though.

Any takers?

You do know that you can do this yourself rather easily right?

Download the hardware maintenance manual and buy Some Arctic Silver 5 from Amazon.

Can I fedex the unit to someone and buy them a beer :)

I have had this tablet for many years and has served me well. Hate to see it just sitting in the closet gathering dust.

I don't know anyone who would do it for free a sit would take a while. The entire base of the machine would need to be removed as the the fan and heatsink are on the underside of the motherboard. This would require an almost complete teardown and rebuild of the laptop. And if you're going to pay someone to do that, might as well have them install a new fan and LCD while you are at it.

Just my IMO though (on the extra labor, not the process)

Seriously?

There has to be a fixit shop near you that can do it.

I do like the keyboard on the thinkpad. Even my new asus zenbook doesn't match. TBH, I also have 3 other computers at home in addition to the thinkpad. Just hate the fact it is just sitting in the closet gathering dust.

I could fedex it out for cheap if anyone wants it...

Define cheap.

I paid over $2000 for it brand new many moons ago. With the SSD and windows 8 (I think you get a free upgrade to 8.1). $249 is a fair deal. $20 ship via fedex with tracking. Just a disclaimer, it needs the fan cleaned/thermal to cpu and the screen does have the bubble issue like all the rest.

I had replaced the battery already.

Before you go selling it:

Put an ad in the marketplace saying you are willing to ship the machine and a few bucks to someone who is willing to clean the CPU and install a new layer of AS5 on it.

Or post your for sale ad there.

And yes, that price seems reasonable to me. But given that I have an X61T, I would have to pass.

Good luck on whatever you decide.
