L7400 vs. L2500

#1 Post by Medessec » Mon Nov 25, 2013 8:15 pm

I recently came into this rare configured X60 Tablet with an originally shipped SXGA+ screen and a L7400 motherboard, and I've been using an L2400 for half a year for drawing... and I've come into an L2500 XGA model, they both perform about the same.

I'm wondering if there will be any sort of a noticeable performance increase? Are there other advantages between the two besides the newer tech and 64-bit capability?
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

No.

No. L7400 is also warmer-running than L2500.

If you really want to upgrade it. Take that fine X60T screen assembly and transplant it into a X61T body. It was a straight forward swapped and was done when I took everything apart to get at the HSF in order to apply new TIM. I got two machines like this and I love it. 64 bit chipset and OS support allowing up to 8 GB of DDR2, flashed with Middleton's BIOS and installed a 240 GB SSD.

I did the reverse swap on the remaining parts, X61T screen into X60T body. Listed then sold it in the local classified for $100. Full disclosure of what I did in the ad, email to prospective buyer and while talking to the buyer in person.

No.
Wow. alrighty then.

Ah! I've always been planning to try this-although what I had in mind is just to find any odd L7300 X61T and plop the motherboard in a gorgeous X60T chassis I happen to have, just the X60T mobo has a BIOS lock. So the rest of the X61T would be rendered quite useless... I was hoping to find an X61T with a ruined exterior, or crappy configuration, or even just an X61T mobo by itself would be fine for me.

As for the L7400 I've come into... I suppose I can make some modifications to it, then give it to my sis as a Christmas present. She likes to draw, but doesn't want to spend the money on one of these tablets... despite how cheap you can find them.

Thanks for the heads up then, ajkula. And Cigarguy, no worries, I'll definitely be trying that out at some point.
