X60T with X60S mainboard - possible?

I tried upgrading my X60T's BIOS this morning, but I couldn't use the bootable CD, as the IBM DOS prompt didn't detect my cheap USB CD drive, so I grabbed an old 80GB HDD, installed Windows 7 on it (I usually don't Windows, I'm more of a Linux guy) and tried the upgrade.
But the upgrader crashed midway through the process, and didn't want to start anymore after that (something along the lines of "System not detected").

So I made the huge, HUUUUGE mistake and shut the thing down.
Now it won't start anymore. Probably needs a new BIOS chip, but I think that my soldering skills aren't fresh enough to do the job...

I decided to buy a new mainboard, but I couldn't find any X60T mainboards on the web (at least none which are being shipped to Germany), so I've been looking around for X60S boards, as they use the same low-energy CPUs as the X60T.

Now, my question is: If I decide to buy one, will it work with my X60T, especially with the touchscreen? The connector seems to fit, at least judging from the pics...

So, anyone got some experience doing something like that and could, maybe, help me, if something bad happens?

I haven't tried using a non-Tablet board on a Tablet chassis, but I think there's two possible outcomes:

Best case: laptop works, but Tablet functions (touchscreen, tablet buttons) will not work.

Worst case: blow a fuse on the X60 non-tablet board, or otherwise irreversibly damage it.


Another problem is that a normal X60 has a 35w TDP CPU, while a Tablet version is equipped with a 17w TDP CPU like the ones inside the X60s.

Since the X60 heatsink will not fit in the Tablet chassis, the CPU will most likely overheat because the Tablet heatsink cannot handle the higher heat output.

Well, if this photo is right, it's got the same CPU as my X60T, a Intel Core Duo T2300, so that shouldn't be a problem, right?

Edit: Okay, I seem to be wrong, the X60T got a "L" Core Duo CPU...

Okay, I googled a bit and it seems that the X60S' CPUs are low-power, just like the ones in the X60T - will the mainboard of a X60S work with a X60T screen?

Why don't you just look for a X60T base, motherboard or a used X60T for a good price? A X61T body will accept a X60T screen assembly without any issues. I've got two of these machines myself because I like the SXGA+ screen on the X60T but I like the hardware of the X61T.

I doubt a X60 non-tablet will have the wiring harness for the tablet functions and their electrical connection are most likely different. The X60 and X61 non-tablets have an extra fan under I believe the palm rest and thus are fitted with slightly more powerful CPU. I have both X60 and X60T but have never considered swapping MB.

Try asking Raceboy. I remember him mentioning about putting an X61s board on an X61 Tablet chassis and vice-versa.

But I agree with Cigarguy, buying an X60T or X61T board is a better option.

It will work but the tablet functions and most LED's will not. Also you have to flash X60T BIOS first because otherwise you will blow a fuse on x60S motherboard.

I suggest find a Tablet system board (use FRU search, not keywords as many ebay sellers have no idea what they sell).

It is possible to recover the failed BIOS upgrade but that involves SMD chip soldering and I will not go into details on public forum.
