my x61 fan noise solution.

after having had the x60t and x60, I bought an x61 for couple of pennies.
the computer is nearly new and is equipped with a T7300, after modded bios is quite fast.
only problem with the noise characteristic of the x61 series: the noisy fan is always running.
after some testing with various lubricants, I realized that the fan of the original core duo models literally sucks and you can not correct it.
the problem is the shaft on which turns the fan: it makes too much friction with the bushing goes where, in addiction the fan is very large and makes a lot of noise even with the air flow.
the defect of the shaft has been corrected in some fans built later, including those of the T61P and in a model of fan suitable for x60-x61 ULV; the shaft is very thin and has worked to make less contact as possible with the seat where he turns, and is extremely quiet. fru 42X3804
clearly if I had used this heatsink on my x61 I will have overheating problems; the heat sink element is half that of the original 42X3805
I had to do a job not quite simple: remove the motor 42X3804 and then mount it on the chassis of 42X3805.
the first part is very easy, since it is enough to break the plastic at which the engine is glued.

the second part (42X3805) is a bit 'more' difficult, we try not to break anything with the help of a knife and very gently, the original engine is not glued but held to three points in melted plastic, enough 'to cut with the tip of the cutter and the work will be 'done.

at this point will be enough 'to paste the complete engine on the chassis of the 42X3805 with attack or similar glue, the hole is the same size of the engine.

'then also change the plug of the fan with the aid of a pin, the wire colors are the same and the location also.

we're done, take the opportunity here to also clean the cpu and gpu and apply new thermal paste.
if all went well, you will not recognize your computer, noise gone forever.
the new fan is much smaller, but it is efficient and effective, I've done a lot of testing, and the computer will not overheat even under stress.
surely the new fan will be 'less effective than the original, but nothing to worry about, unless you live in Africa and uses the x61 to play 3d games.
for home, travel and office use, write, surf over internet and everything else that you can 'do with an ultraportable is the maximum.
At least I think so
greetings to all.
