Intel 5100 wireless card in x60?

I have an x60 , specs are in my signature. As most of these are (especially the T7200 models) very hot running machines, I am looking to do the wifi card swap. It seems like the consensus is mod the bios, put in either an atheros card or an intel 6100n with a full height adaptor. I am wondering, if I purchased an Intel 5100 with a Lenovo FRU, would it still be neccessary to hack the bios? Also, does the 5100 run significantly cooler than the factory 3945? Has anyone done this?

Thanks,
Ryan

You'll still need the BIOS hack since X6* series predates the introduction of 5100AGN.

I'd honestly go with either an Atheros, or an Intel 6*** series, unless you already have a 5100AGN.

I have an Intel Wifi Link 6205 in my X61 and it works great. I had to make a half-height bracket for it to fit in the slot, but it is not a real problem. I also had to install the middleton BIOS, but who in the right mind doesn't?
