Transplanting an X60T Sxga+ screen to a X61T

#1 Post by Derkach99 » Mon Sep 22, 2014 11:59 pm

Hello,

I am interested if you can take a SXGA+ screen off an X60 Tablet and put it on an X61 Tablet with an XGA screen. Is this possible? Also is it possible to take the XGA off the X61 and put it on the X60.

Yes that will work no problem but is a lot of work. Easier to swap complete screen assembly. I've done this a few times.

^^^^^^^^

All very true.

Just swap an entire LCD assembly and call it a day. Works like a charm, every time.

Oh sorry that's what I meant. Now luckily I am looking at model that both have the WAN feature and Bluetooth so I imagine it will be seaming less I would be terrified to break open a tablet LCD assembly it will probably never be the same if I did. The power and ram capacity of an X61 with the flawless sxga screen of the X60 I like it.:)

I don't like it....I love it! Flash Middleton's BIOS, a nice SSD, 4 GB RAM and Win 7 is what I do. Win 8/8.1 is meh for me as I had driver issues and could not get the tablet buttons to work. As a bonus, I much prefer the multicolour IBM logo on the X60T vs the silver metallic logo on the X61T.

Hi All.

Just an FYI.

Within the past month I purchased one lot of four off-lease X60 Tablets (6363-HAU) from this eBay seller. They were advertised as being in excellent condition, and not only were the SXGA Flexview screens sharp and bright, the machines themselves were almost flawless. The sale included docking stations, pens and power supplies, and judging from the condition of the plastics, top covers, base covers, keyboards and docks, these units appeared to have been perched happily in their docking stations for most of their lives and used only sparingly. The hinges were so crisp you would have thought the screen had never been used in tablet-mode! Only a few light scuff marks were evident anywhere.

I'm just beginning to transplant the SXGA screens from these X60T machines into different XGA/X61T units. One finished so far and re-sold locally (to a VERY pleased buyer), just have to find the time to finish the rest.

Regards.

Dave

I will be doing the same shortly. Just one question though, are the fingerprint readers the same?

Fingerprint reader is embedded as part of the screen bezel and works good after the transplant. Most anything between a X60T and X61T can be swapped.

Are you transplanting the lcd assembly from the 6363-HAU or the actual screen?

If the assembly, do you have a guide for how to do this?

Hi.

As Georges' simple 3-point plan indicates above, follow the HMM.

Short version:

Remove the battery and power supply cord.

Remove screws labelled A, B and C from the bottom of the unit.

Lift out the keyboard and palmrest/keyboard bezel (Note: Keyboard bezel is a one-piece unit on the X60T, and a two-piece unit on the X61T).

Remove six screws holding down the video cable shield bracket (41w4177) and remove the bracket.

Undo/unlatch all connectors from the planar that relate to any part of the screen assembly and top cover -this includes the video cable, wireless antenna cables, bluetooth antenna (if equipped) and WWAN antenna (if equipped).

Remove the four screws securing the center swivel hinge from the base of the unit and lift off the entire top cover, cables and screen assembly.

I've done three of these units this way and they all worked well after the transplant. I've taken to swapping the IBM palmrest from the X60T to the X61T upon re-assembly, just because I'd rather have an IBM logo than a Lenovo logo!

Regards.

Some of the screens found on the x61 tablet will form small bubbles on the display overtime.

Not only that.

The original panel revision found in X60T is much crispier and doesn't suffer from protective-coat-sparkles like the second revision seen in X61T.

After going through half a zillion of various X6x tablets, I've come to the conclusion that there were two things I couldn't get used to, as hard as I tried:

a) The slightly smaller keyboard. I kept on hitting the wrong keys, especially in the Backspace/Enter area.

b) Lack of ThinkLight.

Apart from that, my last one - now owned by a fellow forum member - which sports a X61T bottom with X60T SXGA+ lid was one fabulous machine to take just about anywhere and everywhere.

Hey, I'm looking to perform a X60 screen swap for my X61T due to the fact I just realized after taking it out of my closet that it has formed the dreaded bubbles. What part number should I be searching for eBay? 6363-HAU? Thanks!

The part number to look for an X60T screen is (screen type) LCD HV121P01-100 (part numbers) 42T0461 93P5607. That's what I bought.
This is with digitizer as well, and you need to buy also the cable as it should be longer, as the connector in the X60T is in a slightly different position than in X61T (LCD VIDEO CABLE IBM 93P4361 X60 TABLET), and you need to replace the original as it's to short.

But it's much easier if you can find a screen assembly as George and others described above. It's quite a hassle otherwise, I confirm, as I did it and wouldn't really do it again, unless absolutely necessary.
