X61T resource conflict

#1 Post by Billaboard » Sat Nov 29, 2014 1:29 pm

I asked about this back in September, but have been forced to look at it again because she wants it off the table before Christmas!

It's an X61T with 1400 x 1050 screen, and boots with 2 beeps saying resource conflict PCI bus 5,0,0. I've updated the bios and removed all the panels from above the motherboard and also the screen bezel. I haven't found any evidence of physical problems except for one ribbon cable that looked as though it had been trapped by a palmrest screw. It now looks OK after smoothing out.

It is running Linux Mint 17 and boots into this after the error message. lspci -v shows the error message relates to the Ricoh cardbus slot. It is listed as IRQ 16, the same as usb devices.

I haven't found where the Ricoh chip is located, and haven't removed the mainboard from the bottom of the case.

Is it worth carrying on, and should I look out for a replacement mainboard or just try to sell it for spares?

Two questions I'd like to ask:

a) What's the condition of the screen? If it's less-than-perfect, just dump the machine for parts...

b) What's the end game? Do you need this machine for daily use, is it a pet project or something in between?

Ricoh controller is a chip soldered to the mainboard.
Try to switch OFF (disabled) Cardbus Slot and SD Card Slot in BIOS (Security -> I/O Port Access).

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

I have been getting a few X60T's working for friends and family members who have seen me using one and expressed an interest.

I work with audio a lot and, for example, have been trying the Linux and Windows "Harrison Mixbus" DAW, but it needs either multiple monitors or a higher resolution screen than the X60's that I have, and this would be a good compromise between screen and physical machine size.

As far as I can tell, the screen is good and the pen works well. When the machine is off, the screen has a slightly bluish tinge. I have wondered if it is missing some protective glass (?) layer, but it seems to work fine, with no bubbles or other problems. The rest of the machine is in good condition.

I have updated the bios, set it to default and tried switching everything in the i/o access to "Disabled", but still get the cardbus error.

I am not sure where the Ricoh chip is located on the mainboard and haven't removed the cardbus "cage" or taken the mainboard off the bottom plastics. If the chip has failed, would any X61T mainboard just be able to be installed, or would I need some particular version to work with this display?
