New WiFi give unknown device after driver install (X61s)

#1 Post by JKellar » Thu Dec 11, 2014 11:57 pm

I installed a Wireless N wifi card (part# 42T0865/4965AGN) on my trusty old X61s. When I rebooted the card was recognized and it connected fine to my wireless N network, but there was suddenly an unknown device and no driver could be found. I installed the Lenovo 4965AGN driver but there is still an unknown device.

Any ideas? Is there some other driver needed besides the wifi driver?

Go into Device Manager, rightclick on that unknown device and select Properties.
In there click on the Details tab
Click on its Device Description and select Hardware IDs.
Rightclick the last line on the result and select Copy
Go into Google, paste that copied ID and search for a matching driver.
