X61S won't sleep when I close the lid

Here's another odd one. Sometimes, and VERY occasionally, my X61S / Win7 x64 / SSD does not go to sleep when I close the lid. Everything is configured correctly and 99.9% of the time it sleep sjust fine.
The first time it happened, I came down in the morning to find it warm and unresponsive with the screen off when I opened the lid. After a hard boot (held the power button) during the subsequent boot it told me that it had not shut down correctly and did I want to boot normally. I selected YES and it booted and ran fine.
The second time it happened, it simply didn't go to sleep. It remained running with the screen off and the lid closed. When I opened the lid, the screen came on and it was running normally. Closing the lid turned the screen off but did not put it to sleep. Selecting SLEEP from the shutdown menu DID put it to sleep. I then closed the lid and re-opened it and it woke up fine. However, closing it again resulted in the same thing... the screen turned off but it did not go to sleep. After a reboot (no error messages), it works perfectly again.
The only common thread I can see is that this MAY be related to bluetooth use. I normally keep the BT radio off, but I think that both times this happened, I had BT on and had been using a BT mouse.
Note that this is a new to me X61S (1.8GHz) that I have had for a couple weeks. My previous X61S (1.6GHz) never refused to sleep.... but again, I never used BT on that one.
I did some searching and didn't turn up anything useful. Any ideas?
