Hi All,
I would like to upgrate my x61s as it became as hobby to me now

, however, I do not know what mode would be the most useful to me. What is the most iritating thing for me at the moment - loud fan. Is it possible to reduce its sound and increase efficiency of it?
Otherwise I will be going for SXGA+

, however, waiting for Your comments suggestions regarding useful modes on x61.
Thanks in advance!

Hi neighbor,
I'd try with fan maintenance first (silicon-based grease lasts longer). If that doesn't help, e.g. the fan is kinda physically damaged, get a new one (if not available in Lietuva, Amazon and Aliexpress have it).
As for what's next... Are there empty mini PCIe slots inside? Does it have WWAN option (antenna and sim-card slot)?
Also I'd get a dock station (ultrabase with DVD-RW).

2x4GB RAM.
And I assume you already installed Middleton's BIOS?

Can You give more details regarding fan maintenance part

? What did You mean silicon-based grease lasts longer?

well, I know just 2 options for the fan's bearing grease (maybe there're more):
1. "oil" grease
2. silicone grease
The latter one was recommended to me "as long-life" by a laptop service guys here in Minsk

My sensors' data:
tomas@tomas-ThinkPad-X61s ~ $ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +46.0°C (crit = +127.0°C)
temp2: +46.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)
thinkpad-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
fan1: 3894 RPM
fan2: 0 RPM
temp1: +46.0°C
temp2: +55.0°C
temp3: +55.0°C
temp4: +44.0°C
temp5: N/A
temp6: N/A
temp7: N/A
temp8: N/A
temp9: +51.0°C
temp10: +45.0°C
temp11: N/A
temp12: N/A
temp13: N/A
temp14: N/A
temp15: N/A
temp16: N/A
I would guess that noise is due to RPM, not due to fan's bearing not greased. Can You check Yours RPM figure?

If you can get access to BGA reballing machine/service, try to get a P8800 on X61. Performance gain is significant

But wouldn't that require additional mods like the FSB overclock + new BIOS + RAM SPD timing mod?

Yes, but based on my experience from L7500 to P8800, it's worth the effort (15 degrees Celcius hotter +5% less battery life in exchange for 70% increase in performance and SSE4.1 instruction set which helps with 1080p movies a lot)

I have an L7500 X61 Tablet with nonfunctional AC and battery indicator LEDs. Is it worth experimenting on?
Will the mod work on an X61 instead of X61s?

The mod will not work on X61 tablet due to the BIOS. (BIOS only support 65nm CPUs) But you can flash the modifies X61 BIOS on X61 tablet to make it work.
X61 motherboard is actually better for the project cos it has two phases. Mine X61sp is actually X61 motherboard in X61s case. you just need to modify the fan socket a bit

Hi All,
yesterday I have manged to change me thermal paste and grease fan bearings. It seems that temperature has droped&fan speed slowed down, however, I have encounter other problem. Led indicators which shows capslock, disk utilization, power, sleep mode and etc. is not working after assembly (only two indicators work: wifi and BT).
Could someone help and suggest what have I made wrong as before disassebly everthing was OK? It seems that I have broken my lcd cable leg which is attaching to base

. Any other ideas?
