X60 Tablet - Windows 8.1 Issues

#1 Post by finkmac » Sat Jul 18, 2015 11:41 pm

I recently got a nice X60 Tablet, HiRes screen model.

Installed Windows 8.1 on it, and a bunch of stuff didn't work (no drivers).

So, I've been installing drivers and trying to get everything to work.

I've managed to get most stuff working, but a few annoying things aren't working.

The rotation lock does nothing
The ThinkVantage button doesn't work
Half of the blue FN functions don't work (built in ones like brightness, lock computer, hibernate, etc are working though. The spacebar zoom driver is working)
The volume buttons don't display any sort of indicator

Apart from that, I think everything is working.

Anybody know how I could fix these issues?

Here's a screenshot of what Lenovo/ThinkPad stuff appears in the Programs and Features control panel Image

Alright, fixed everything.

1. The rotation lock was actually a power button lock

2/3/4. I installed the Hotkey drivers for Windows 8 in Windows 7 compatibility mode, and the hotkeys started working.

The OSD still wasn't appearing, but I fixed that by looking in the Hotkey folder (in /Program Files/Lenovo/), finding which .exe launched the OSD, and adding a shortcut to the Windows Login files folder.

Nice find regarding the workaround with the Hotkey exe file. Is it sufficient that this file is executed once, and then all OSDs and Fn-Hotkeys work for the duration of that session?

Usually the issue with non-working OSD is fixed by using an older version of Hotkey. On an average of 8 out of 10 newer machines I have installed over the last years, anything from T61 to T420, OSD didn't work at first attempt. So I uninstalled, and reinstalled the older version. Any OS from XP to Win8. In case you run into issues and want to look into it, there is a thread here that describes exactly which version to use, but I'm on my phone now, so it's hard to navigate.

Yeah, running the file (something like TDblahblah.EXE) will make the OSD appear until you reboot.

Interesting, I'll have to look for that list... I might need it for some X201ts in the future.
