X60 "Inkblot" Display Problem

My trusty X60s has just developed an
"inkblot" display problem. By that I mean that it almost resembles a Rorschach test ! What is even more peculiar is that the problem is growing. This image was taken a few days ago. Now, the spotting reaches to the midway point on the display, so rather hard to ignore.
It is primarily black, but if one looks closely, there is some green and red tinting as well.

I've seen the various posts on vertical and horizontal lines, but this isn't a band, more like a blotch. There has been no shock, pressure or anything I can think of that would have caused this.
Is this some kind of "leak" inside the panel itself? Any suggestions on what might have caused this, how to diagnose and possibly fix this? Or is it time to put this Thinkpad into a retirement home?

I tried to embed the image, but I guess I haven't been approved to use that coding feature. As a backup, I posted the link just in case. Oh well, both plans failed...

That black stuff is liquid crystal.
The glass layer of your panel is broken. There is no way to repair that.

That's disappointing but I thank you for that confirmation.
Is the liquid crystal moving about freely within the panel which is why it enlarged in the last few days? Am I right to assume that there is no danger as this is within the panel, not external, since there is no crack in the display.
If there was no shock or any force exerted on the panel, is this just something that could happen without provocation? The X60 was fine at night when I shut down and then the next morning when I booted up, it suddenly appeared.

I can't see your image, but if the blotch is moving, that's actually a bubble in the liquid crystals. The part with the working image is the liquid crystal layer.

The link here should be working:

I also embedded it but I don't think I've been approved for that feature on the forum, so it only shows as "IMAGE".
The "lines" have just extended upward. And as there was no pressure exerted on the screen or the unit dropped, it just didn't even occur to me that the panel could be cracked inside.

Yep. You need a replacement LCD. This one is done with.
