some pictures of X62
Re: some pictures of X62
3g/4g lte support is a waste of time. The market is moving to smartphone wifi hotspot.
Having an empty slot that can be used for msata like devices is a good thing though.

Re: some pictures of X62
Hey thank you for the pics! This newborn X62 looks great.
Just one question. Why did you choose to use the Realtek LAN chipset over Intel?
Is it possible to replace it manually?

The market has never been tested.TonyJZX wrote:3g/4g lte support is a waste of time. The market is moving to smartphone wifi hotspot.
I would nothing better than an integrated, unlocked, carrier-agnostic 3G/4G/LTE radio as an option, so long as it has a physical [mechanical] "off" switch.

I don't think it's possible to do so, unless the Realtek chip is electrically and physically compatible with the Intel chip, which I doubt is the case.Just one question. Why did you choose to use the Realtek LAN chipset over Intel?

Re: some pictures of X62
What are your thoughts on your X62 now?
How has its reliability held up?
What are its limitations vis a vis a state of the art machine running Windows 10?
Was the graphics card upgraded on the X62?
Will it Miracast or project video to other devices in the network?
With multiple Windows open to the internet, is it faster compared to X61 Core2 Duo with 8Gb ram running a SSD hard drive?
Would you do it again?
Wny?
If not, what you you buy/build instead?

Mine has proven to be a great machine
No issues yetHow has its reliability held up?
Panel self-refresh doesn't work, so the CPU doesn't use its deepest power saving state (reaches package-C7 instead of PC10). But some modern machines aren't any better in this respect. And the display resolution isn't as high as on some modern high end machines, but with the help from another forum member, I'm working on that (we're trying to adapt a 12.3" 1600x1200 tablet screen to the X62, otherwise the 1400x1050 from an X6x tablet is the maximum). What are its limitations vis a vis a state of the art machine running Windows 10?
It's the internal graphics of the new intel CPU, so of course, the graphics "card" is upgraded. It has the same power as on any broadwell ULV laptop with intel graphics. Was the graphics card upgraded on the X62?
No idea, never tried. Will it Miracast or project video to other devices in the network?
Yes.With multiple Windows open to the internet, is it faster compared to X61 Core2 Duo with 8Gb ram running a SSD hard drive?
Yes.Would you do it again?
It's a great, light, small machine with a 4:3 screen and thin bezels. I like that.Wny?
I'd probably wait for the X280 which is rumored to be similar to a 12" X1 carbon. If not, what you you buy/build instead?

Thanks NonsensE!
Are they making additional batches?

Re: some pictures of X62
As far as I can tell from Google translations of that question and answers on 51nb, probably not. People are already calling for an X63 though, with with the new 15W quadcores or ryzen, so after the X210 and X310 they may make a new board to fit the X6x. Maybe even with an interface for the 1600x1200 screen I mentioned above. But probably not before 2019 if they do it at all. So your best bet at the moment is to find a used X62.

NonsensE: Understood.
Thank you for sometimes coming over from the German forum...
I have a beautiful 2.5GHz 15.4" T61p which has 8Gb ram as well as this 2.4GHz X61 with 8Gb ram.
Both have Intel AC 7260 Dual Band wifi cards.
And although I prefer the T61p when I am working for hours on very large documents, I much prefer using the X61 as my daily computer. And yes, I also prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio. And I prefer the keyboards on both to current style keyboards.
I think I may install the WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD1TB 2.5” 7MM SATA III 6GB S for USD $309.99 and keep using the X61 until a X63 is available. If you hear of the availability of an X63, please let us know.
I hope you had a Merry Christmas and will have a very Happy New Year!
