Flat battery for Thinkpad X60s and X61s
Flat battery for Thinkpad X60s and X61s
I'm looking for batteries that are flat that fit X60s or X61s. The only batteries I find look like the battery on the X61 plus a spacer.

Well, you found the right battery, get one of those X6x batteries plus a spacer, and you're all set.
There never was a "full", one-piece alternative for the s-models.
See the manual from the above HMM-link.

Re: Flat battery for Thinkpad X60s and X61s
Yes, a battery that fits an X61s will also fit an X60s. I've not seen or used a type 31 battery before but it does appear to be one which does not require (or use) the normal spacer for X6x batteries when mounted in an X60s/X61s. It would also seem to leave a "hole" in the bottom of the system as the length of the battery past the hooked latch doesn't seem to be as long as the spacer. If somebody who has actually used one of these "31" batteries can reply, maybe they can say for sure.
edit: Got home and looked at one of my X61s systems and compared it to the photo of the model 31 battery and it looks like it's the right size.
As far as the item you linked to, I would say you might get an aftermarket (aka, non-genuine) battery. Some warning flags:
* "For site restrictions can't upload pictures with LOGO, if need physical picture please contact us."
* If you look real closely at the area above where the "Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery" is printed (first and third photos), it looks like they "Photoshopped" some printing out of the photo. That's probably the LOGO they are talking about. Which leaves the obvious question: Who's logo is it?
* While not an absolute indication of a fake / non-genuine battery, it's being hawked at aliexpress.com and is shipped from mainland China (hover the cursor over the seller's name Kan Hong Wang).
You could probably do better looking through eBay. Definitely better by posting a WTB here in the forum. The people here are generally very knowledgeable about what they are selling and should be able to give you complete information about the battery; i.e., the age, number of recharge cycles the battery has undergone, what the current capacity (Wh) is, etc.
For curiosity's sake, why are you only interested in the "flat" (4 cell) battery?

Re: Flat battery for Thinkpad X60s and X61s
The reason I like a flat battery is the slim profile of the x61s. I bought an x61s because it is thinner than the X61. But without a flat battery, it is just as bulky as an X61. I would prefer an 8 cell flat battery but I have not been able to find any. It's too bad that Lenovo did not create battery to take advantage of the X61s thinner profile.

Wrong, I have got two myself.RealBlackStuff wrote:Well, you found the right battery, get one of those X6x batteries plus a spacer, and you're all set.

FYI there are also 8 cell flat batteries that were used on thinkpad reserved editions.
But those flat battery are more or less useless, battery life is about 1.5 hour on those. Don't know about the 8 cell flat batteries as I never had one

4 cell flat battery is more or less useless, only last 1.5 hours on X61s. As for 8 cell flat battery I'd prefer going for the 8 cell normal battery for longer battery life :/cow_racer wrote:The reason I like a flat battery is the slim profile of the x61s. Re: Flat battery for Thinkpad X60s and X61s
Those flat batteries must have come out after I bought my X61s, never knew about them until now.
Mine has the original 8-cell battery (22++) with extender, giving it a battery life of over 5 hours.
