Intel 6235 in X60s's WiFi slot
Intel 6235 in X60s's WiFi slot
Hi All,
Has anyone got Bluetooth detected by Windows 8.1 or any other version with Intel Advanced-N 6235 WiFi+BT combo card in X60s's WiFi slot? Masking pin #51 with scotch tape doesn't seem to work for me, and my X60s has no miniPCIe connector for a WWAN card. Do I have any options at all except for connecting this card to USB somehow? The signature of the author of the following post tells me it's possible with X61t although it doesn't state which miniPCIe slot the card is in:
Dell m4800 QHD+ 32gb, wigig, 32" BenQ 4k, 28" Asus 4k
Latitude E7240 12.5" 1080p touch
3x W520 2760qm ESX 5.1 32gb, 4x 2tb Virtualized Freenas
X61t sxga+ L7500 1.6ghz .875v, Middleton bios 2.24, Intel 6235 working BT 4.0
T61p, t9300 dual ida 2.7ghz 1.05v, LG WUXGA, 8gb, 256gb M4, T420
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 35#p703392
Many thanks in advance!

Re: Intel 6235 in X60s's WiFi slot
The WiFi slot in the X60, X60s, and X60 Tablet do not have the USB signal pins.
The WWAN slot in those machines do have the USB signal pins, but not the PCIe signals (Blimey!)
AFAIK, in the entire X6x series, only the WWAN slot in the X61/X61s/X61 Tablet has both PCIe and USB signals.

Thank you. Alas... I do have a couple of X61s laptops lying around but there's no point sticking the 6235 into any of them as they already have built-in BT: only my X60s doesn't.
Btw is running a jumper wire from pins #36 USB_D- and #38 USB_D+ on the motherboard for the WWAN connector to the same pins for the WiFi connector all I need to do? Cannot see any other USB related pins in generic mPCIe pinout documentation. Not sure if it's easy or not to solder it that way but if it's that straightforward in theory I might try it one day.

Could you use the LCD + bluetooth from an x61? (I don't have you OS so I couldn't test this).

That's yet another option indeed although I fancy above described mod more due to the technical challenge learning exercise involved and it'd also leave less parts idle )
Actually can I not just stick a BDC (=Bluetooth Daughter Card) or even a newer one with BT v4.0 support into my current LCD? The following tells me some X60s laptops came with it preinstalled:

Remembering the pain of my LCD repair experience with T42 it'd be really great to know in advance whether my particular X60s has a slot for such card or not (I think I came across somewhere that some don't).

What is the FRU of your LCD cable? There are cables with and without the bluetooth connector.
If you have the connector you can use a X61 card. Bluetooth card from a x30 series could work, a whitelist free BIOS could be necessary.

If you need one of those bluetooth daughter cards let me know, I've got a few laying around. I'd be happy to drop one in the mail. FRU 39T0497 pulled from either an X61s or X61.dandreye wrote:Actually can I not just stick a BDC (=Bluetooth Daughter Card) or even a newer one with BT v4.0 support into my current LCD? You take out three screws from the front of the LCD to get to the bluetooth card - on the same horizontal line as the "X60s Lenovo" text -- and then unsnap the plastic using a guitar pick or piece of thin plastic.

Thank you - I might need it indeed if I go for the LCD cable swap: will let you know.
So my options to add BT seem to be:
A) run a jumper wire from pins #36 and #38 for WWAN slot to WiFi slot and hopefully get BT part of Intel 6235 detected
or
B) swap LCD cable for the one with BT and put a BDC in.
If I go for A will I be able to turn BT on/off using Fn+F5? If so I'll probably try A first due to the learning exercise involved and also 'cos LCD cables with BT FRU 93P4535/93P4536 are quite pricey here.

Re: Intel 6235 in X60s's WiFi slot
Found these:
http://www.jkkmobile.com/2009/01/how-to ... -easy.html
http://forums.vr-zone.com/hardware-depo ... ost4542957
- does my 6235 already receive the power required for BT part of it via X60s's standard WiFi slot connector (3.3V if I got it right) or I have to arrange that too besides USB_D+/-?
- will I be able to turn BT part of my 6235 on/off using Fn+F5 if this approach succeeds?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Intel 6235 in X60s's WiFi slot
I believe the answer is "Yes". All the voltage lines (1.5v and 3.3v) are connected on the X60's WiFi slot.dandreye wrote:- does my 6235 already receive the power required for BT part of it via X60s's standard WiFi slot connector (3.3V if I got it right)
The X60's and X61's WWAN slot have the same voltage lines connected.

For what it's worth, you can use the BDC from newer machines in a 60 series.

That's above mentioned option B, isn't it? Having gone through the PITA of taking T42 screen apart once, trying to avoid the same here now (required to swap LCD cable assembly as mine's w/o BT). Else it'd have been my choice since inception as that'd definitely let me turn BT on/off using Fn+F5, which I need.

I have the 6235 working with Bluetooth on my trip and x61t. I think I got it working on my x61t also. I did a guide some years ago, but I'm on my phone now and I'll post it from my desktop if needed.

That'd be perfect: please do when you get a chance. I'm awaiting recently ordered magnifier glass for the soldering works involved.
