X60s Battery

Hello everyone,
I recently acquired an x60s for cheap, and in the process of getting it up and working I've hit a major roadblock. When I first got it, I could unplug the ac adapter and it wouldn't cut off immediately, and the battery would show that it was charging. Now the battery light blinks orange every second and if I unplug it, the laptop immediately turns off.
I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 32 bit, and here's my output from upower -i /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT0 | less:

With the battery attached and the power cord plugged in and it constantly blinks orange and never change to solid green, it means your batter is shot. It's not taking a charge. Disconnecting the power cord when this happens will turn off the computer immediately.

Is it pretty clear cut that it's a fault with the battery? Whenever I have the parallel problem with a car, it's usually the starter or the alternator, so I'm wondering if there are other devices inside that could be at fault.

Replacing the battery have always worked for me.

From what I've seen the cells in the battery are fine but the firmware decides not to charge the battery. I'm not sure what the cause is but I've never solved the riddle and always buy a new (used orginal) battery.
