Intel Core 2 Duo (L7400) & 64 bit OS compatibility

Hey guys, I was thinking about "upgrading" my current X60T with the L2500, Core Duo processor to the Intel 2 Core Duo L7400. One of the big advantages being the ability to run 64 bit operating systems. However, I've read a couple post here where people had vaguely recalled there being an issue with the L7400 Intel Core 2 Duo running 64 bit operating systems and I was wondering if you guys know anything about that - I suppose it would be nice to not have to feel the need upgrade

X6x CPUs are soldered to the motherboard.
You'd need another motherboard.
Get an X61T mobo instead (it fits), it has native 64-bit CPU (L7300/L7500/L7700) and can take up to 8GB RAM.
With Middleton's BIOS you can get SATA II speed and a few other goodies.

I plan on Librebooting it, and the X61 series isn't compatible. Basically I'm trying to find my ideal device before dedicating to libreboot, and as of now the L7400 processor seems more appealing than the slower L2500, but not if it comes at the expense of not even being able to run 64 bit

I've owned an X60T with L7400 and will attest that it ran a 64-bit version of W7 Pro with no issues. Having said that, the 3GB RAM limit still stands, which - IMO - doesn't serve the purpose of running a 64-bit OS all that well.

Solid point, I think I'll stick with this current device. I am still very curious as to where these rumors arose from, I'd be interested in knowing if there's any truth to it.

I'm my testing the L7400 was slower on all counts compared to an L2400 and it ran much hotter. Both were running Libreboot. Granted, i didn't do any number crunching, and that's where 64-bits would shine.
