X61 don't recognize battery

#1 Post by sashikawa » Tue Sep 27, 2016 11:04 am

Hi guys,

Need your help. I have x61 laptop and 2 not original batteries which working fine for 2-3 years.
2 month ago suddenly X61 didn't recognize battery. I changed battery to another one and working fine for 2 month. Yesterday X61 suddenly X61 didn't recognize my 2nd battery.

What's going on? Laptop corrupted batteries? Is it possible?

Please advise what should I do

Thank!

It's tough to say unless you can borrow another *known working* battery to test the system.

If you have more than one machine, that would be a pretty good indicator of where the problem is...

Good luck.

Then they\re most likely dead...

I don't believe that your machine has damaged the battery, it's just that the vast majority of aftermarket batteries - in my experience - are sheer junk.

Try finding a genuine one on feebay...

Good luck.

Yep, don't blame the laptop for bad aftermarket batteries. There are good aftermarket batteries out there, it's just difficult to find them.

I buy used, original, batteries which hold >50% of their original charge. Buying cheap aftermarket battery packs is something you try a few times and then stop doing.

These 2 batteries have been working fine for 3 years and died with a difference 1 month.

Well, you've gotten more out of these knock-offs than most people do. Time to move on, preferably to a genuine - even lightly used - battery.

Maybe the firmware is set to 'die' after 3 years. I threw out a bucket full of old batteries, many of them with cells which could hold a charge of 4.0-4.1V...but something prevented them from being charged or recognized by the thinkpad -- I assume the firmeware on the board inside the battery is not 'playing fairly'.
