A X61 project. Almost completed.

#1 Post by turkka80 » Tue Jan 03, 2017 5:15 pm

Hello again.

I have obtained a broken X61, code 7674-AF4 for free (well not for free but in exchange for a Acer Travelmate 5520 and a few euros) because my friend's daughter accidenty broke the screen of the Thinkpad. While I was in there I re-applied the thermal paste and now the temperatures seem okay as well. But now it isn't just smiles and laughter in Thinkpad land, I seem to have broken a part of what seems to be the LCD ribbon which controls the status indicator lights. I have working WiFi and Bluetooth lights but Caps Lock, Num Lock, HDD, Power, Charge and Sleep lights aren't working. The picture of the missing part is as follows.

I think it is the part of LCD ribbon, but I am not sure, if someone knows better please let me know. And as for now, it seems that the machine works fine without it but is there other things that might go wrong with this piece of cable? Also, I have obtained a nice working T410 with Nvidia Optimus, but it is a thing for another thread....
- Thanks, Turkka

PS. Theres a few things out of date with my signature, there are a few Thinkpads now, X61, T410, T41 and 2 T61's, one with Intel GPU and one with NVidia GPU...

That looks like the part of the cable with the sensor for detecting if the lid is closed or not.

Yeah, I think I wrecked one cable in a similar way.

Yes that seems to be the case. No lid sensing as well. But then again, if things turn out well and I actually start using this machine as a real portable (The battery seems to be fine) then I will grab a cheap SSD in there too and then the lid sense doesnt matter so much as the boot up time will be fine anyway.
