Coreboot on X62?

#1 Post by flyingfishfinger » Tue Feb 21, 2017 4:10 pm

Hi all-
I was wondering if anyone had tried putting Coreboot on their X62. jaspen-meyer put the thought in my head since he was working on BIOS flashing and mentioned coreboot.
It seems that certain Chromebooks (Pixel 2015, for example) come with the same CPU and there seems to have been some work in getting it to run on them. I haven't asked anyone on their mailing list and I'm not enough of a software dev to try and build a working version myself, but it seems like it would be quite neat if that worked.
Of course, there might be some obvious roadblocks that I don't see due to my inexperience with the subject, but I was curious.
What do people here think?

This site is linked to from coreboot.org, and lists several Broadwell boards:
https://mrchromebox.tech/static/devices.html

Here is the coreboot overview for developers wanting to port to a new motherboard (x62 in our case):
https://www.coreboot.org/Developer_Manu ... _new_board

The first task is figure out which hardware is in the x62 hardware. The next step is to find 'supported coreboot board' with the same hardware.

There are three main categories of 'hardware':
1. cpu family
2. chipset
3. superIO

Digging around my system I found the following:
1. cpu family = Signature: Type 0, Family 6, Model 61, Stepping 4
2. chipset = 9 Series
3. superIO = ???
T420 i7 3612QM seabios; T420 i7 3630QM; T400 Q9100 seabios; T61 P9600; T60 libreboot; x62; x60s libreboot, led; x24 xiphmont led

The SuperIO on an X62 is a Nuvoton WPCE775x / NPCE781x (id 0x00, rev 0x04) at 0c4e.

Does that help?
