Suggested replacement cells for Thinkpad batteries?

#1 Post by flyingfishfinger » Wed Apr 26, 2017 7:58 pm

Helloes-
I learned a method reset failure flags / change capacitiy / adjust other parameters on Thinkpad batteries (look up "Karosium 8030" on Google, there's a guy with a blog who figured it out for less than $10 in parts).

The goal is to replace the cells in an ailing 4-cell pack with something nice, but I'm not 100% sure what cell characteristics I should be looking for. Highest capacity certainly, but at what discharge rate? The highest one can seemingly get is about 3500mAh, but at lower discharge rates than for, say, 2200mAh cells.

Any tips on what I should be looking for?

My guess is you want cells with a high number of expected charge cycles, which is to say it can be charged and discharged lots of times.

A quick calculation, pulling 12 watts on a 4-cell 2200mAh lipo battery is about 0.33C.
