x60s: lost a memory channel!

Hi,

I have used this x60s for 6 years, 2sd hand. It is 11 years old.

Today, something weird happend. XP got a BSOD. Ok, fine, i reboot. Cannot reboot. Screen stays black and machine does not boot when i press the button: 1 seconds all the green leds turn on, then the on green light stays on but it is stuck.
Felt very bad about it.

Bottom line: one memory channel seems dead (the second one, luckily).
I have 3 memory banks (2GB, 1GB,1GB).
They all 3 work alone in the first bank.
But when i plugged 2 together (any match, even the 1GB+1GB), I have the same issue.
If i dont populate the first slot, then the machine bips at boot and refuse to start.

So seems that 1 memory controller is gone. Seems a weird problem to me. Happened to anyone else?

I ve got a x61s board anyway that i can use, but for the time being, i wan tto stick with my x60s board.
I have 2GB, 1 memory channel. I am not doing anything too process intensive anyway, so it shall not be a big deal...

It maybe the Memory socket but all you can do is make sure it's clean.

That might be a sign of a dying northbridge. Do some cleaning work with motherboard, look for some weird looking elements (something burnt, etc.). And be prepared for mobo swap in the future, because you might be forced to do this one day.
