X61 dies after cleaning
X61 dies after cleaning
After a little maintenance on my X61 yesterday it booted up fine to start with but later would not switch on.
I sprayed some silicone lubricant on the fan which cut down the fan noise dramatically and then cleaned the keyboard with some foam cleaner, and it worked fine initially.
If the foam cleaner damaged the keyboard, is there another keyboard I could try to see if that is the cause of the problem?

Re: X61 dies after cleaning
After rooting around in my 'ThinkPad spares' box, I found another keyboard which fitted the keyboard socket of the X61 and was able to power it up, so at least the X61 hasn't died as I feared...

Re: X61 dies after cleaning
I'd never use liquids to clean a laptop keyboard. If I ever do, I'd make sure to dry it out as much as possible.

Better to use something that evaporates quickly and completely like isopropyl alcohol.

Re: X61 dies after cleaning
Is my keyboard dead or is it rescuable?

Re: X61 dies after cleaning
To be completely honest, I have no idea.
Maybe just put it in a warm dry place (not in direct sunlight) for a week or so, and hope that everything evaporates.
