Sierra Wireless MC8775 Card

I've manged to get drivers for a Sierra Wireless MC8775 card installed on my ThinkPad X61... the thing is they appear as a Network driver, there are two entries under Modems, as well as eight entries under Ports (COM & LPT) and one under USB controllers. I'd like to know how they are all used. Can anyone explain?
My ThinkPad Graveyard:
600 * 2, X220, X61 * 2, T61
