Hi

i've just bought a cheap IBM X60 tablet and have being using it at work for about a week or 2 now, and i'm loving it great little machine.

adding an SSD and a 3gigs of ram has made it great. However the only issue is the screen its 1024x768 now i love the 4:3 aspect ratio but modern programs like office with the ribbon just have no room to see anyting.

so i'm looking at upgrading the screen to the SXGA+ version. I came across this blog
https://ithinkpad.wordpress.com/2011/10/14/x6xipsguide/

and while old it talks about replaceing the x60/1 non tablet screen but more importantly give me a part number HV121P01-101
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SXGA-CCFL-12 ... SwOgdYomKI

now can anyone tell me if this is a good idea will the panel that i linked on ebay be all i need since i have a fully working x60 tablet? is it just a case of taking the lcd out on my x60 and putting all the other parts and cables into the new one?

or will i need to order more stuff?

Thanks everyone

That eBay screen is meant for an X61T.
They are infamous for developing bubbles between surface and LCD.
It will fit in an X60T but those bubbles are gonna spoil it! AVOID!

The bubble free variant that was originally used in the X60t is called HV121P01-100. Most ebay displays of this type come without the front glass, though, so they're not protected for use with the stylus. You'd have to buy a matching 1mm(?) glass to put in front of it.

You don't need to follow the guide in that blog you linked. That is for installing an X60 Tablet display into an X60 non-tablet machine. Which is a very cumbersome mod. Upgrading your X60 tablet display to SXGA+ is way easier.

The ideal solution would be to find a fully assembled x60 tablet lcd assembly sxga+ but I can't seem find any.

Even if you only find the display without the entire assembly, such as here:

the installation is easier than what you see in the blog. You would remove the lcd assembly, remove the bezel, remove the display, place the new display in, and put everything back. No removing and cutting metal frames, plastic tabs, or plexiglass covers. Drop in replacement.

Of course, that is a little bit more involved than swapping lcd assembly, but IMHO it is nothing compared to trying to retro fit an X60 tablet display into a non-tablet X60 or X61.

Thats more or less what i though. So the only difference would be that there would be no glass on the new panel and the touch screen would no longer work?
