ThinkPad Enterprise Wireless Display Adapter - US
ThinkPad Enterprise Wireless Display Adapter - US
Will this ThinkPad Enterprise Wireless Display Adapter - US allow our X61 laptops to project video to another screen in the network?

The Tech Specs for the adapter say this:
"VGA-in for backwards support legacy laptops
VGA-out to support projector, or HDMI-out to support TV/projector"

Hilarious!
I posted the exact same question in Chat at Lenovo.com and after Adam S. and I exchanged pleasantries and his request for a "moment" to investigate my question, it responded with this:
"Your current Lenovo chat session has ended due to inactivity.
Please do not hesitate to contact us in the future."

Re: ThinkPad Enterprise Wireless Display Adapter - US
Quick update:
dr_st: Stated "So, if your SmartTV supports WiDi/Miracast, you can probably use this Enterprise Wireless Display Adapter, by connecting it to the laptop's VGA, and then transmitting wirelessly to the TV." Which was my suspicion based on the spec's statement:
"VGA-in for backwards support legacy laptops"
So I ordered it, will try it, and report back.
Check this out. Lenovo has free returns with no restocking fee for orders made before January 15, 2018. So, ordering it and trying it seems to be a no risk proposition. And because I ordered it through Lenovo Chat, Lenovo reduced the price to $103.99
Your Order Summary
Item: ThinkPad Enterprise Wireless Display Adapter-US
Part No: 0C52866
Sub total: $103.99
Tax: $8.06
CouponSaved: $26.00
Total: $112.05

Re: ThinkPad Enterprise Wireless Display Adapter - US
Setback encountered. According to Samsung Chat, no Samsung televisions support Miracast.
So, the adapter is going back.

Re: ThinkPad Enterprise Wireless Display Adapter - US
Good news.
Have tested Samsung series 6 UHD TV. And it certanly have WiDi or Miracast. T440p Win7 can see it but when connecting (throught Intel WiDi utility) gives error that TV didn't returned EDID. But Thinkpad Tablet 10 2nd gen with Win10 sucessfully connected to it but only as FullHD (1920x1080) screen.
BAD News.
Only my thioughts (from reading this)
ThinkPad Enterprise Wireless Display Adapter is not suitable for your use case.
It is receiver - not transmitter. X61 can't connect to this device wirelessly. Main use case - in conference room old good projector (without WiDi / MiraCast features) hanging on the ceiling. We mounting this device to the ceiling and connect it to projector (via VGA or HDMI cable) so good old projector can be wirelessly connected by anyone in conference room. We can route old VGA cable (from VGA in connector) to the single old computer in this conference room too.
Re: ThinkPad Enterprise Wireless Display Adapter - US
Thank you FryPpy. The adapter will be returned as soon as I receive it.
More bad news, I knocked over the tv when straightening out the hdmi cord to the T61p and cracked the tv's display, so no real urgency to connect X61 to that display at this point...
