Soundmax audio on X61s with Win XP solution

#1 Post by tecmes » Sat Mar 10, 2018 3:26 pm

Can't make the soundmax chip work on your X61 on WinXP32? Going crazy? Getting "hardware changed" or "no audio device" errors?

Spent three solid days on this, installing every conceivable driver, almost gave up. So here's the trick for those who'd try.

By now you already know you MUST install the KB888111 to enable UAA bus drivers, before installing audio drivers. OK, but it still doesn't work.

What you need is to disregard the 5.10.1.5710 drivers that Lenovo offers. It seems that it requires a v.2.3 BIOS - that doesn't exist on the X61s (that I'm aware). It's probably offered for other supported laptop, but not the X61.

So, you must install the 5.10.1.5520 drivers (this is the 7ka114ww). This is the Win2K version. It works. God, it works. Here's a link that may work: https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/p ... a114ww.exe
Workhorse: vanilla X61s. "Gaming": 14s-IWL. Drawer: X31, X201s (sold, couldn't get used to it...). Office: T560. First crush: X20. Fond memories: SXGA+ 770
