Spectre v2

#1 Post by rthur » Thu Apr 05, 2018 10:57 am

Intel has announced they won't be releasing further microcode updates to patch Spectre variant 2 for Penryn - see page 12 of https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-content/u ... idance.pdf. Meron isn't even listed, so I suppose it's safe to assume that won't receive any patches either.

Yes it's certainly looking that way but I don't think it should alter your usage of the dual core.

I would have liked them offered but I am not sure of the difference it would make to security or the performance limitations. The dual core only has 2 threads so in theory the threat from spectre shouldn't be as great. The CPU advancement to the I Core CPUs was extensive.

For me I won't be rushing to install any Bios or Microcode updates regardless.

For servers the spectre might be more of a threat but just keep your defenses up and make sure you have malware protection.
