I uave been wondering about thia for a while now. The thinkpad X60 / X61 has obnoxiously high and loud predefined fan RPM levels, just like in Thinkpaf T60 series.
Fortunately in the T60 you cqn modify these predefined RPM valurs through a firmware mod. My T60 is now completely silent with these fan levels: 1700, 2000, 2500 rpm.
Do any of you know a way to achieve something similar with the x61 series? I want the fan to work, but 1700rpm would be plenty, instead of the moronic ~2500 rpm first level factory value. The noise it makes basically renders the laptop unusable for me (but I must admit, I am somewhat of a silence maniac).

I haven't heard of anyone who's modified the fan speed tables on the X61, but it's possible that the method used on the T60 can be adapted to work on the X61 as well.
