LED mod for HV121P01-101 (X61s)

#1 Post by pruss » Tue Oct 09, 2018 3:32 pm

Hello everyone!

I'm a happy owner of the X61s laptop. I liked it so much, that I decided to give it a second life - changed all the parts that were used after so many years. It's so great to type on it!

I'm working on Arch so old processor is not the biggest problem for me, unfortunately the screen is. It's very dark and low resolution keeps me from using it as a main computer. I ordered the HV121P01-101 screen from Aliexpress (i know that they are not perfect, but want to give it a try) and also would like to give it the LED mod. Obviously there is a 'daylight kit' that has a great opinions here, but after 2 months of sending emails i didn't get any reply form the author.

Could you recommend any other LED kit for this screen?

Best regards,
Piotr

You should message xiphmont (Monty) on this forum with a direct message. I had the same issue back then, when I tried to contact him through his website. Then luckily through this forum we managed to get the deal done.
Probably you emails went to his spam folder. I have to wonder how many potential customers he has lost so far because of too aggressive spam filtering.

Thanks for answering.
Maybe eventually I will be able to contact him somehow, I tried many mails and also PM here.
I can tell by the comments, that his 'daylight mode' would be exactly what I'm looking for my new sxga+ screen.

Also trying to get in touch with xiphmont

Looking for the entire SXGA+ screen w LED mod + cable for my X61s

How can you tell if you have the 'ultralight' screen or regular? Wondering if I'll need to swap my lid to a X61

I can't tell you whether or not you have xiphomont's mod (as I don't haha, I had someone local show me how she did it), but once 'ultralight' is installed you will be able to see your screen outside, even in bright sunlight. That's the beauty of LED lights and controllers.

Lids don't usually need swapping, but everything will fit a bit more snug in the cover and some uh, rearrangement (and of course, a total replacement of the inside parts and cables), will be necessary.
