X60T - no audio device on Win7

#1 Post by nobody88 » Mon Sep 09, 2019 6:12 am

Hello,

Some weeks ago I aquired an x60T which needed some attention. After swapping the plastics and buying a battery and an SSD I set up Windows 7 on it. However after the install and downloading all the drivers from the "Drivers" section of the forum I am unable to get the audio set up on it. The device is nowhere present in the device manager and all of the audio driver packages I tried failed with an error telling me that there are no supported devices found. I also had a look at the BIOS to see if the modem is enabled (I recall that this was the case on the T60 model that disabling the modem also affected the audio), but sadly - nothing helped. Did any of You had experienced similar issues on that specific machine? If yes - then was it a hardware issue that required to swap the mobo out?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Possibly a bad audio chip, but just in case:

Did you download and install the Chipset driver?

(For an X60T with 2000/XP/Win 7/Win 8 the file name is g1ic09ww.exe)

This is usually the first Lenovo driver I install after installing the O/S.

Good Luck with it :D

Regards.

Dave

P.S. To rule out a bad audio chip, try a Live Linux install and see if it is detected there.

The first thing I did was to install all of the drivers - including the one You mentioned. Didn't change anything.

As for USB boot on Linux - I tried on two distros (Debian and Slackware) and both failed to detect the sound card. So - it's dead. Ah well - need to either find a motherboard or the schematics for it and then hunt down the issue. Thanks for the help!

If another mobo, the X61t will also fit.
Added benefit: up to 8GB RAM, and with Middleton's BIOS you can get SATA II speed, plus another few goodies.

Hi RealBlackStuff,

Thanks for the tip - I might take a look at X61t boards then. Not only 8 GB of RAM but also they do have 64 bit CPUs (mine has the L2400 1,66 GHz so I don't even get full 4 GB...).
