After enjoying excellent service with a T420 I bought an X61 for everyday emails/browsing etc
It came with 32bit XP and was working fine but after a few days decided to switch to 64bit xubuntu as I need MS Teams for work.
I made up a bootable USB of 64bit xubuntu and changed bios to boot from HDD+ USB
The xubuntu splash screen came up, and hard drive whirred and then power light went off and smell came out through the keyboard.
I quickly removed the keyboard to try and sniff out where the smell was coming from and traced it to Tantalum Capacitor TC1

On my machine this cap is marked 470 and 886k d
I probed it with a capacitance-measuring DMM. Resistance is 0R and the capacitance is OL - i.e. it appears to have failed short.
The laptop is in excellent cosmetic condition and I'm loathed to bin it so I'l like to have a go at fixing it but wondered if anyone can answer my questions:
What is the value of this capacitor 88uF, 47pF or 470uF,
What is the voltage rating? is it d = 20V or because this is part of the Sandy bridge circuit is it a lower rating ~2V
'd' seems to refer to the SMD package size as it's approximately 7.3 mm x 4.3 mm...
If anyone can help me ID this capacitor, knows anything about this failure mode or can give some clue as to why the failure occurred I'd be most grateful

Re: X61 blown capacitor TC1
The above Dropbox link does not work.
TC1 is this capacitor: SE470U2VDM-3GP
470uF/2V M7343 ESR6
TC1 is the same as the TC3, TC10 and TC11 nearby.

Re: X61 blown capacitor TC1
Thanks very much for the info @RealBlackStuff
Sorry about the dropbox link, one thing it does show is that on my unit there is no cap at TC3 is that normal on a 7674?

Re: X61 blown capacitor TC1
Depending of the position of the cap it could be only needed on another model (with different CPU, chipset, etc...) so no worry if your motherboard is missing one (if the pads are new of course, if they are used because a capacitor used to be there out of the factory and is now missing then you need to put one in).
